flat Creek Lone star enduro

september 21, 2017

We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the ranch.  Just want to share some last minute tips so you can be prepared.  Let us know if you have any questions!

  • When pull into the ranch, first stop to check in and pay the day use and camping fee for Flat Creek.
    • $10 per person over 12 years oldfor-- (this fee goes to the ranch and is separate from the registration fee)
    • $10 per person camping for event
    • $10 insurance fee for anyone planning to ride that isn't racing
  • Racers! After you pay the day use fee:
    • Follow signs to the pavilion area.  There you will:
      • Sign a waiver.
      • Verify you are registered
      • Get a chip assigned
      • Get a number plate
      • Get your $10 Whole Earth gift certificate for all your patience
      • Optional: buy Taco Plate ticket
    • Be cool with us.  There are 225 registered racers.  There will be a line.  We love you all.
    • The event is SOLD OUT.  No race day registration.
  • Camping and parking your car.  Unless you are staying at the hotel or a cabin, all camping and cars must be parked in the fenced area to the right of the entrance.  This is for the safety of riders.  There are several trail crossings that we will have protected by our lovely volunteers, but we want to limit the risk of car/rider collisions.
  • Bring lots of drinking water.  Potable water is not reliable.
  • Food:
    • Beef and Chicken Taco plate from Taconmaye (Javy's family's taco truck):
      • $5 meal ticket sold at check-in
      • Will be available [5:15].
    • Otherwise, pack meals and snacks in for yourselves.  Plan for a full day.
    • Or, if you want to escape at some point (you won't), Dripping Springs is 20 min away.
  • Bathrooms:  There will be fresh port-a-potties at the entrance and two bathrooms and showers located at the saloon.  Treat them nicely for your fellow riders.
  • "The Pavillion":  The Pavillion area is a few clicks past the entrance on the right hand side and will be a "home base" area where the awards and meetings take place. Its also a spot where families and spectators can post-up, meet each other, enjoy community, let kids play. This is family friendly.  Bring everyone.
  • PSA: Most folks don't have very reliable cell service at the ranch.
  • If you are taking Fitzhugh Rd, approaching from the east:
    • Beware of road cyclists. [ A little thing I hope will catch on: If I see a cyclist riding the opposite direction, I flash my hazards at the next car coming the opposite direction to try to wake up their brain. Try it.  Or don't.
    • There is a single lane low water crossing here.  It always has (~15' of width, <6" depth) water on it.  Just go slowly.  Watch for on coming traffic.
    • If there is heavy rainfall you may consider coming in from 3232
    • GET YOUR TIMING CHIP EARLY SATURDAY MORNING [imagine 225 racers trying to get their chips at the same time]
    • DO NOT LOSE TIMING CHIP ($200 per lost chip paid by assigned rider)
  • As always, treat the land respectfully, so we are welcome back next year.
